False Friends
When translating from English into French, a Houston Translation worker will almost always come across false friends. These are pairs of words or phrases in two languages that sound similar, but actually have a very different meaning. This is one of the biggest pitfalls for the beginners. Mistakes could potentially be quire embarrassing and even to get you into trouble. For example, if you use the word “affluence” in a French text, you are not saying that there is a lot of something but that there is a crowd of people. The only way to avoid making mistakes in your French Translation of a text is to learn these types of words well so that you can recognize them when you come across them in future.
